minimalist wardrobe for kids

“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.”

― Fred Rogers

I have two little boys, ages 2 and 9 months. My two year-old, like most toddlers, has boundless energy and an imagination that breeds wonder. I learn so much from him every day, and am often in awe of how he looks at the world and engages with it. Play really is how he learns and works. My 9 month-old isn’t far behind, and I can’t wait to watch my boys grow and learn and play together.

When I was a new mom, I didn’t know yet just how important it would be to create a simple, minimal, quality wardrobe for my children. It took me a little while to weed out what I didn’t need, what wouldn’t last beyond even a couple washes, and what wasn’t conducive for play. I also came to realize that I didn’t just want purely practical clothes, but I wanted clothes that I loved and could hand down from generation to generation—clothes that my boys could wear when they took their first steps or turned another year older and that their own children could one day wear at those same precious moments. Dressing my children has really become a source of joy for me as a mother, so I started to see it more as a fun hobby than a stressful chore.

Fin & Vince quickly became my go-to children’s clothing shop for vintage-inspired, high quality heirloom pieces and super soft, durable play clothes. I donated garbage bags full of baby clothes and reorganized what was left so that I knew what holes needed filled and what essential pieces I could rotate throughout the week. Already my mind, home, and closets felt clearer, simpler, and more thoughtful. I felt like I had the freedom now to invest in a few classic pieces that were versatile, charming, and worth the money.

The Cozy Home Essentials Collection is just perfect—between the softness of the fabric, the quality of the material, and the stunning colors, there is truly nothing else out there like it. Like all of our Fin & Vince pieces, I love that every single top and bottom can be mixed and matched with just about anything and makes getting dressed every morning quick and seamless. The whole collection really is incredibly cozy and versatile—from wearing to bed, around the home, or even as a staple in an outfit, the essentials collection might just be our favorite of all.
